Why can't women be happy with there complexion?

I've made several comments on this topic over the last few days. I just don't get the sun tan craze; not only can it give you a life threatening disease, but it looks tacky! They say a tan looks youthful. They say you look healthy with a tan. Who are they? Where do they live? Why do we listien to them? I think it would be nice if girls took reasonable care of there appearance, learn to be happy with who we are, and tell them to buzz off. Pale skin is both beautiful, and healthy. What do you think?
Why can't women be happy with there complexion?
It's men like you that don't express yourself enough. This day and age "men" say they'd prefer a tan. My husband for instance would rather me have a tan than just be natural. I think if more guys would say that to us we probably wouldn't. It's an insecurity thing. We want to be liked and look beautiful. So we'll do what "they" are saying.
Why can't women be happy with there complexion?
I think people are too concerned with their appearance in general, and this is just one example of that.
Reply:ask michael jackson
Reply:I don't tan, but then again I don't need to since I'm biracial. People will never be happy about how they look.
Reply:because they like to resemble carrots!
Reply:ii LOVE MY SKiiN COLOR AND ii TOTALLY GET WHAT UR SAYiiN SMARTEST THiiNG ii HAVE HERD ALL DAY
Reply:I agree; I'm not about to go out and mutate my DNA just because somebody says it looks good. There are a lot of unhealthy things that are cool or said to be beautiful, but I think it is pretty stupid.
Reply:I love my pale skin. I'm 49, but because I have taken care of my skin, I look years younger. I never had problems with acne when I was younger, and I don't even mind the small lines that are beginning to show.

So not all women want that tan.
Reply:A life long pale non-tanner here...no-one could ever convince me I needed "more color"...the one time a few years ago that I inadvertently got a bad sunburn on my face that resulted in some tanning, everyone commented on how good I looked, but I just hated it and could not wait until it faded to my normal color.
Reply:I don't get. I got sunburn once! I wasn't trying to tan. I was born with a beautiful chocolate complexion. I was working outside. Why risk the pain?
Reply:In Asia everyone is obsessed with whiter skin. We age slower than Caucasians too because we hide from the sun. I much prefer delicate porcelain skin.

Caucasians should just use self tanners. It's safe
Reply:Although I think forcing a tan is kind of stupid too, I'll attempt to play devil's advocate:

Extremely pale skin makes one look sickly. (Ok, I've run out of other ideas.)

I think it is ironic that in most other cultures, people are obsessed with light skin, because it shows refinement. People with tanned skin generally were considered to be farmers who toiled in the sun, while people with paler skin were thought to be of the upper class who could afford to stay inside.
Reply:Because women are there own worst critics. Also, heavier people seem to look a bit less heavy with a tan. But I'm just speaking on my behalf on the tan thing.
Reply:It's really complicated with girls and I would know because I am girl. They want boys to say good things about them cause to us it's a good thing you know?! They worry about things like:OH I'm too hairy,or I'm ugly,or other stuff! Everyone feels bad about how they look but girls the most!
Reply:First of all the sun does have vitamin d and is healthy for you just not to much, but yes be happy with what makes you happy.Peachy pale skin is beautiful so are all other skin tones this makes us wonderfully unique.
Reply:It is just like the hair crazy. Women always want what they can't have. I want straight hair but mine is curly... vice-versa. I think that anything but a very pale complexion is health and beautiful. To me Pale symbolizes sick. Tan makes people look more happy, in my opinion, but not more attractive. In fact in Asia they do just the opposite of what women here do. They go and have their skin bleached.. I know because I have been to the philippines and seen it done. The men over there love the White skin look... I think tan is nice if you want to show you have been on vacation, but that is all... Just my opinion...
Reply:I think there needs to be more men/women with this outlook.
Reply:cause we care what we look like other than some of you guys

plus we got to impress and put up with people causre they got good skin and you don't

not sayin i dont have bad skin but i don't
Reply:thats so easy to say when ur irish, ur lucky u dont have the sun like Oz, we have no choice when it comes to it and a hat and sunblock isnt the answer when youre dealing with a 45+ summer.....but we definately dont say you look healthier with a tan, we'd do pale if we could......
Reply:Because they want to impress men who want the "perfect" girl
Reply:Dear Irish guy:

Thank you....being happy with who you are has been a life-long goal for me. A girl I know in college lost her pocketbook and all of us were worried about her license, credit cards, etc....She didn't care about all that....she was worried about her make-up!! I think looking one's best is impo as well as staying healthy and if we all just accepted who we are, well, major make-up companies would go bankrupt. Isn't it odd that in other species it's the male with the colorful plumage attracting the female.....but your question is more about tanning....I think when it comes in a bottle, then that's really gross. If you have natural coloring from being outdoors then that's ok......but to deliberately fry yourself with baby oil and to make sure you don't have any missed spots is the sign of someone too self-absorbed.

Thanks for the question!!
Reply:Everyone else answered the why tan/ or just natural question, I will attempt to satisfy your other questions. THEY: They are actually the people that stand to profit from tanning. Sun tan beds, and the people that make apple cider vinegar(heals the burn, and prevent peeling, for a longer lasting tan) the guys who make aloe vera lotions, and all the other "cooling" lotions. THEY LIVE: In Malibu i think. Not sure, they might have moved since I spoke to them last. They were talking about the Caribbean. WHY DO WE LISTEN TO THEM?? Because we think that they speak for everyone. We were programed at an early age that whatever "they" said was the general consensus. It wasn't until recently that women were born with an attitude that say "to hell with what you think I am going to do my own thing" It's been slow going but in another ten years, the only people who will tan will be the sun worshipers, that think they look better that way regardless of what others say. Until then. PALE GIRLS UNITE. the only reason I want a tan, is to even out my own color. My arms are darker than the rest of me, and if they ever get a chance to fade I would be happy. But right now, they stay darker than the rest of me, cause I wear short sleeve shits a lot.
Reply:I'm a southern girl so a tan is as much a part of my life as saying "Yall". It's so hot here unless you are a couch potato ,you are at least a little tan . I do feel I personally look better with a tan but I have seen people who were just as beautiful without. (Think Nicole Kidman)The "Tan Craze " started in the 1920s when French fashion designer Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel showed up at her fashion show with a golden tan obtained on the French Riviera. Being tanned began to be a status symbol that you had wealth and traveled to these tropical places.
Reply:The reason women can not and will not be happy with their complexion is because of Hollywood and all these beauty magazine that show all these air brushed people that look gorgeous and everybody is always trying to look better. Just be happy in the skin your in. Pale skin is beautiful it looks untouched when you start putting stuff on it and tanning it that is when problems arise then they try to fix one problem and keep creating others and then it it is a never ending problem. Come on women be happy in your skin!!!
